Floyd Collins: The Cave Explorer Who Got Stuck!

Floyd Collins loved exploring dark, twisty caves! He was like a treasure hunter, but instead of gold, he was looking for new caves to show people. Back in his day, people loved visiting caves, and Floyd wanted to find the coolest ones near busy roads so lots of visitors could see them. One day, Floyd was exploring a small cave called Sand Cave. He was trying to make a passage bigger so people could get through. But oops! He got stuck in a super narrow spot, 55 feet down. That's like being stuck under a playground slide, but way deeper and darker! It was a scary moment for Floyd, deep inside the earth.

News about Floyd spread like wildfire! People all over the country heard he was trapped and wanted to help. Rescuers worked hard to reach him, bringing him food and water. Sadly, even with all the help, Floyd couldn't be saved. A rock slide blocked the way, and he was trapped for 14 days. He passed away just before rescuers could reach him. Even though it was a sad ending, Floyd became famous because so many people cared about his story. His tombstone even says he was the 'Greatest Cave Explorer Ever Known'!
