Where in the World is Russia?

Russia is a super-duper big country that stretches across two continents, Europe and Asia! It's so wide that if you flew from one end to the other, it would take a very, very long time. Its federal subjects are like the different neighborhoods in this giant country.

Some are near cold, icy oceans, while others are closer to sunny plains. It's a land of amazing mountains, huge forests, and even frozen deserts!

How Did Russia Get So Many Parts?

A long time ago, Russia was part of a bigger country called the Soviet Union. When the Soviet Union broke up, Russia decided to organize itself into many different parts, called federal subjects. They signed a special agreement called the Federation Treaty to make sure everyone had a fair share of rules and responsibilities.

It was like making a big promise to work together as one country, even though they had many different kinds of regions.

What Makes Each Region Special?

Each of Russia's federal subjects is like a unique toy in a big toy box. Some are called 'republics' and have a bit more freedom to make their own rules. Others are called 'oblasts' or 'krais.' They all have their own leaders and their own special laws, but they all have to follow the main rules of Russia.

It’s like having different classrooms in a school, each with its own teacher but all part of the same school.

Learning and Working in Russia's Regions

In every federal subject, kids go to school to learn all sorts of cool things, just like you! Adults work in different jobs, like farming, building things, or even exploring for oil and gas. They also have their own governments that help run things smoothly. It’s important for everyone to get along and help their region and the whole country be the best it can be!
