Federal Aviation Administration

The Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, is like the boss of all the airplanes flying in the United States. They make sure every plane is safe to fly and that pilots know exactly where to go. Think of them as the traffic police for the sky!

They help guide planes so they don't bump into each other, especially when lots of planes are flying at once. They also make sure airports are safe places for planes to land and take off.

The FAA has some really cool jobs! One of the most important is air traffic control. These are the people who talk to pilots and tell them when to go up, when to come down, and where to fly.

The FAA wasn't always called the FAA. It started a long, long time ago, in 1958, as the Federal Aviation Agency. Before that, there were other groups trying to do the same job.

Then, in 1967, it became part of a bigger team called the U.S. Department of Transportation. This is the same department that helps with roads and trains!

So, the FAA has been working hard for many years to make flying safe for everyone.
