Key Facts
Islands That Play Hide-and-Seek!
Imagine a bunch of islands that sometimes look bigger and sometimes smaller! That's the Farne Islands, off the coast of England. Depending on the water's mood (that's the tide!), between 15 and 20 islands pop up.
Some are close together, like best friends holding hands, and others are a little further apart. The highest point is as tall as a two-story house, but most are much smaller. It's like a scattered puzzle piece of land in the big blue sea!
Home to Feathered Friends!
These islands are super important for lots of birds! They are like a giant, noisy hotel for thousands of seabirds who come to build nests and raise their babies. You can find puffins with their colorful beaks, guillemots, and razorbills. It's a busy place, especially in the summer, when the air is filled with squawks and flapping wings. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise!
A Lighthouse's Lonely Watch
On one of the islands, there's a lighthouse called Longstone. Imagine a tall tower that shines a bright light to help ships not bump into the rocks. A very brave lady named Grace Darling lived there a long, long time ago. She helped save people from a shipwreck, becoming a hero! The lighthouse still stands guard today, a reminder of brave stories from the past.
Nature's Special Playground
The Farne Islands are protected by special rules because they are so important for nature. It's like a giant nature reserve where animals and plants can live safely. People visit to see the amazing wildlife, but they have to be careful not to disturb the animals. It’s a wild and wonderful place that shows us how important it is to look after our planet.
