Welcome to the Big Music Show!

The Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was like a super-duper talent show for grown-ups! It was the 54th time this amazing event happened. Imagine 42 countries sending their best singers to perform. This year, the whole party was in Moscow, Russia, at a huge place called the Olimpiyskiy Arena. It was a night filled with music, dancing, and lots of sparkly costumes!

Who Was in Charge?

This big music party was organized by a group called the European Broadcasting Union. They worked with a TV channel in Russia called Channel One. This was extra special because Russia had won the year before with a song called 'Believe'.

It was the first time ever that the semi-finals and the final had different hosts! Think of it like having different teachers for your morning classes and your afternoon classes.

Norway's Big Win!

Guess who won the whole contest? It was Norway! Their singer, Alexander Rybak, sang a song called 'Fairytale'. It was so popular that it won both the judges' votes and the people's votes. He got a super high score, 387 points! That was the most points anyone had ever gotten in Eurovision history back then. Wow!

Lots of Countries Joined In!

Forty-two countries joined the fun. Some countries came back after a break, like Slovakia, which hadn't been in the contest since 1998. But some countries couldn't make it, like San Marino because of money problems. Georgia wanted to come but had to leave because their song wasn't allowed. It was a busy year with lots of music from everywhere!
