Key Facts
Where is New Zealand?
Imagine a country made of islands, way, way down at the bottom of the world! That's New Zealand. It's a super long place, like a giant green ribbon floating in the big blue ocean. It's so far from other countries that it feels like a secret island paradise. The weather can be sunny and warm, or a bit rainy and cool, like a surprise every day!
Who Are the Pākehā?
Many people who live in New Zealand came from countries like Britain and Ireland a long time ago. They are called 'European New Zealanders,' and sometimes, in the Māori language, they are called 'Pākehā.' It's like when you have a new friend who moved from another town, but now they are part of your school and your games. They brought their own stories and ways of doing things!
Lots and Lots of People!
Guess how many people in New Zealand have European roots? It's a LOT! More than 3 million people, which is like filling up a giant stadium over 30 times! Most of them call themselves 'New Zealand European,' meaning their families have been there for a while. It's a big part of what makes New Zealand so special and interesting.
What Do They Do?
People in New Zealand do all sorts of jobs! Some might work on farms, growing yummy food. Others might be doctors, teachers, or builders. They also have fun traditions, like celebrating holidays and sharing meals with family and friends. It's all about building a happy life in their beautiful island home.
