Eternalism (philosophy of time)

Some people think time is like a river, always flowing and changing. What happened yesterday is gone, and tomorrow hasn't happened yet. But eternalism is a different idea!

It's like time is a super long road. Every part of the road, from the very beginning to the very end, is already there, all at once. So, your birthday last year, your birthday next year, and even your birthday when you're a grown-up are all just as real as today!

Eternalism is sometimes called the 'block universe' idea. Imagine a giant, four-sided block. One side is space going left and right, another is space going up and down, and a third is space going forward and backward.

The fourth side is time! This block has all of history and all of the future inside it, all at the same time. It's like a giant movie reel where every single frame exists, even the ones you haven't watched yet.

Thinking about time this way helps us ask big questions about what is real. If the future is already there, does that mean we can't change anything? Or does it just mean that all possibilities are already part of the universe?

It’s like wondering if your toys are still real when you put them in the toy box and close the lid. Eternalism says yes, they are still real, just like all moments in time are real.

In eternalism, there's no special 'now' that's more real than any other time. Your first day of school, your favorite holiday, and even a time far in the future are all equally real. It's like having a giant photo album where every single picture, from the first one ever taken to the last one, is equally important and exists at the same time.

It's a mind-bending idea that makes us think about how we experience time!
