Meet the Giant Bow!

The English longbow was a super-duper powerful bow used a long, long time ago. It was about as tall as a grown-up, around 6 feet (1.8 meters) long! That's taller than many kids! It was made from special wood and was strong enough to be used for hunting yummy animals or even in big battles.

Where Did This Big Bow Come From?

Nobody is exactly sure if the longbow was first made in England or Wales, but by the time knights and castles were around, both the English and Welsh people were using them. They became famous for helping the English win important battles against the French, like the super famous Battle of Agincourt!

Why Was This Bow So Special?

This bow was like a superhero weapon! It could shoot arrows really far and really fast. Imagine a whole army of archers shooting arrows all at once – it would be like a storm of pointy things! This made it very scary for enemies who weren't ready for it.

Amazing Arrows and Shipwrecks!

Sadly, not many of these amazing longbows from way back then still exist. They probably broke or got replaced. But guess what? Over 3,500 arrows and 137 whole longbows were found on a sunken ship called the Mary Rose! It's like finding a treasure chest of ancient archery!
