Fun Fact
English kings kept calling themselves 'King of France' for over 400 years, even after they stopped fighting for it!

A Royal Mix-Up!

Once upon a time, some English kings thought they should be kings of France too! It all started because King Edward III of England had a grandma who was French. He believed that made him the rightful king of France.

He even fought a big war, called the Hundred Years' War, to try and become king. But the French people had their own king, and they didn't want an English one. So, even though Edward tried, he never got to be king of France.

The Big Fight for the Crown!

King Edward III's grandson, King Henry V, was a super brave warrior. He won a huge battle called Agincourt. After winning, he made a deal with the French king.

The deal said that when the French king died, Henry V's son would become the king of both England and France! This almost happened, and Henry V's son, Henry VI, was crowned king of both. But the French people in the north of France were the only ones who really accepted him as their king.

A Game of Thrones That Didn't Quite Work

Even though the English kings kept saying they were the kings of France for hundreds of years, it was like pretending to be someone you're not. The French people never really agreed. Eventually, the English lost most of their land in France, and the big war ended.

For a very long time, English kings kept the title 'King of France' on their fancy papers, even though it didn't mean anything anymore. It was like having a pretend crown!

Why It's Like a Storybook!

This whole story is like a chapter from a fairy tale or a history book! It shows how kings and queens used to fight over land and titles. Even though the English kings never truly ruled France, they kept the idea alive for a very long time. It's a reminder that history is full of surprising claims and big battles, and sometimes, what seems like a good idea doesn't quite work out in the end.
