Where is England?

England is an island country, like a big green playground surrounded by blue water! In the olden days, it was a kingdom with kings and queens. It's part of a bigger place called Great Britain.

The weather could be chilly, and sometimes the land was hard to farm, especially when it got colder during a time called the Little Ice Age. But it was home to lots of people who lived in villages and towns.

Kings, Fights, and Big Changes!

Long, long ago, England had powerful kings like Edward I, who was super strong and took over Wales! But sometimes kings lost battles, like Edward II who lost Scotland. Then came Edward III, who started a HUGE fight with France called the Hundred Years' War.

It lasted so long, it was like a never-ending game of tag! Sadly, a terrible sickness called the Black Death swept through, and it was so bad that it made many people disappear.

Knights, Castles, and Cool Stuff!

People in England loved stories and songs. They built amazing castles and churches with fancy pointy roofs called Gothic style. Knights wore shiny armor and rode horses. They also made beautiful things like paintings, carvings, and even fancy clothes. Music was everywhere, from church to parties. Some people even went on long trips called pilgrimages to special places.

Working and Living in Old England

Most people were farmers, working hard in the fields. But after the Black Death, there weren't enough workers, so some fields turned into grassy places for sheep to munch on. This made wool very important! Women also had important jobs, sometimes running big farms when the men were away. People spoke English, but also French, especially the fancy lords and ladies.
