Meet the Amazing Orangutans!

Orangutans are super cool, fuzzy apes that live in the rainforests of Asia. There are three kinds: the Bornean orangutan, the Sumatran orangutan, and the Tapanuli orangutan. They are like the kings and queens of the trees, swinging from branches with their long arms. They love to eat fruits, leaves, and sometimes even bugs! Their scientific name is Pongo. They are very smart and gentle creatures.

Where Do They Live?

These amazing orangutans call the lush, green rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra islands home. Think of giant, tall trees where they build cozy nests to sleep in. Sadly, their forest homes are shrinking, making it hard for them to find food and safe places to live. This is why they are in trouble.

Why Are They Losing Their Homes?

Sadly, people are cutting down the orangutans' forest homes to make space for farms, especially for palm oil. Palm oil is in lots of yummy snacks and products we use! When the trees disappear, the orangutans have nowhere to go. This makes it very hard for them to survive and have babies.

Orangutans Need Our Help!

All three kinds of orangutans are in big trouble, and scientists call them 'critically endangered.' This means there aren't many of them left, and they could disappear forever if we don't help. We can help by learning about them and making smart choices about the products we buy.
