Meet Emperor Yang!

Once upon a time in China, there was an emperor named Yang Guang. His nickname was Amo! He became emperor a long, long time ago, in the year 604. He was the second emperor of the Sui dynasty. He loved building big things and leading armies. He was like a king who wanted to make his country the biggest and best it could be!

Digging a Super-Duper Canal!

Emperor Yang is most famous for building an amazing canal called the Grand Canal. It's like a giant river highway that connects faraway places. It's so long, it's longer than many countries! He also helped rebuild the Great Wall of China. These projects were super hard work and took many, many people to build.

Big Plans, Big Problems

Emperor Yang wanted to win wars and make his empire huge. He sent his soldiers far away to fight, but sometimes the soldiers got sick and many didn't come back. Building all these amazing things and fighting wars cost a lot of money. The emperor had to ask his people for more money, which made them very sad and angry.

An Emperor's End

Because the people were unhappy, they started to protest and fight back. Emperor Yang had to hide in a city called Jiangdu. Sadly, his own soldiers turned against him, and he was captured and strangled. Even though he built amazing things, his reign ended sadly because his big plans made his people suffer.
