Key Facts

Ocean Coverage
Oceans cover about 71% of the Earth's surface.
Warming Trend
Ocean temperatures have been steadily increasing.
Acidification
The ocean is becoming more acidic as it absorbs carbon dioxide.
Sea Level Rise
Global sea levels are rising due to melting ice and warmer water.

Ocean Superpowers Under Threat!

Our oceans are like giant, blue superheroes that help keep our planet cool and healthy. They cover most of the Earth and are home to amazing animals like playful dolphins and giant whales. But guess what?

The Earth is getting warmer, and this is making the oceans warmer too! Imagine a bathtub that's always too hot – that's kind of what's happening to the ocean for some sea creatures. This warming can make it hard for them to find food and a comfy place to live.

When the Ocean Gets a Fever!

When the Earth gets warmer, the oceans soak up a lot of that extra heat. This is like the ocean getting a fever! When the water gets too warm, it can make it hard for tiny plants called plankton to grow.

Plankton are super important because lots of fish and other sea animals eat them. If the plankton disappear, the animals that eat them might go hungry. It's like if all the yummy snacks at your school disappeared!

The Ocean's Big Sigh: More Carbon Dioxide!

We breathe out something called carbon dioxide, and so do cars and factories. The ocean is like a giant sponge that soaks up a lot of this carbon dioxide from the air. But when the ocean soaks up too much, it becomes more acidic.

This is like adding too much vinegar to water! This makes it hard for animals with shells, like crabs and oysters, to build their homes. Their shells can become weak and brittle, like a cookie that breaks too easily.

Sea Levels Rising Like a Giant Water Balloon!

When the Earth gets warmer, ice in cold places like the North and South Poles starts to melt. This melted ice flows into the ocean, making the water level go up, up, up! It's like blowing too much air into a balloon – it gets bigger and bigger.

This means that some beaches and islands might get smaller, and it can be harder for animals that live near the coast to find safe places. We need to help our oceans stay healthy!
