Waiting for the Crown!

Imagine waiting almost 60 years to become king! That's how long Edward VII, nicknamed Bertie, was the Prince of Wales. He was Queen Victoria's son, but she was queen for so, so long.

Bertie loved to travel the world, visiting places like North America and India. He was like a celebrity prince, doing lots of public jobs and meeting people. But sometimes, his love for fun made his mom, the Queen, a little grumpy!

King Bertie Takes Charge!

When his mom finally passed away, Bertie became King Edward VII. He was older now and had important jobs to do. He helped make the British navy and army stronger. He also brought back fancy royal ceremonies and invited all sorts of people to meet the royal family, not just important lords and ladies. He was like a king who wanted everyone to feel included in the fun!

A King Who Made Friends (Mostly!)

King Edward VII was really good at making friends with other countries, especially France. People even called him 'Peacemaker' because he helped keep things calm in Europe. But he didn't get along so well with his nephew, the German Emperor. It's like having a cousin you don't always agree with, but on a much bigger scale!

The Edwardian Party Time!

The time when Edward VII was king is called the Edwardian era. It was a time of big changes, like new kinds of boats and new ideas about how people should be treated. It was the start of a new century, and things were getting exciting! King Edward VII died during a big argument about who had the most power in the government, but things were sorted out after he was gone.
