A Tiny King's Big Crown!

Imagine being king when you're only nine years old! That's what happened to Edward VI. He was the son of King Henry VIII, who was famous for having six wives.

Edward was Henry's only surviving son, and he was raised to be a Protestant, which was a new way of practicing Christianity in England. Because he was so young, grown-ups had to help him rule the country. His uncle, Edward Seymour, was in charge first, and then another leader named John Dudley took over.

When Things Got a Little Wiggly!

Edward's time as king wasn't always easy. There were money problems and people were unhappy, sometimes even leading to big fights and rebellions. England also fought a war with Scotland, which cost a lot of money.

During Edward's reign, England's church changed a lot. Instead of following the Pope in Rome, England had its own church, and services started being held in English, not Latin. This was a big deal for how people worshipped.

A Sad Ending for a Young King

Sadly, Edward got very sick when he was only 15 years old. He knew he might not get better, so he and his advisors made a very important decision. They didn't want England to go back to the old ways of practicing religion. So, Edward chose his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, to be the next queen because she was also a Protestant. This was meant to keep England on the path he believed in.

Who Was Edward VI Anyway?

Edward VI was born in 1537 and became king in 1547. He was the first English king to be raised as a Protestant. His reign was short, lasting only until 1553 when he died. Even though he was king for just a few years, he helped make England a Protestant country. His choices about who should be king after him caused a lot of drama, showing how important his decisions were, even for a young ruler.
