Giants of the Forest!

Imagine a creature as tall as a small car and as heavy as a pony! That's an Eastern moose! These amazing animals have long legs to help them walk through deep snow and thick forests. They have big, floppy ears to hear everything around them and a funny, droopy nose. Eastern moose are the third biggest moose in North America, which means they are super-duper large!

Where Do They Hang Out?

Eastern moose love to live in cool, shady places called boreal forests and mixed forests. Think of lots and lots of trees, like pine trees and leafy trees, all close together. You can find them in Eastern Canada and in the northern parts of the United States, like New England and New York. They need lots of trees to hide in and yummy plants to eat!

What's for Dinner?

Eastern moose are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. They munch on leaves, twigs, and bark from trees. They also love to splash around in ponds and lakes, eating water plants. Their long legs help them wade into the water to reach the tastiest underwater snacks. They need to eat a lot to keep their big bodies going!

Moose Manners (Sometimes!)

Most of the time, Eastern moose are pretty chill. But when it's mating season, the boy moose (called bulls) can get a bit grumpy and even aggressive. They might charge if they feel threatened or if something bothers them. It's important to remember they are wild animals and should be admired from a safe distance!
