Meet the Fluffy-Tailed Friend!

Imagine a bunny with a tail like a little cotton ball! That's the Eastern Cottontail! These cute rabbits are everywhere, from the tippy-top of Canada all the way down to Mexico and even further south.

They love to live in grassy fields and bushy places where they can hide easily. Their fluffy white tail is their special signal, flashing like a tiny flag when they hop away from danger. They are super busy, always nibbling on grass and plants.

What's for Dinner?

Eastern Cottontails are picky eaters, but only about one thing: they LOVE plants! Their favorite meals are yummy grasses and tasty herbs. When it's cold, they'll even munch on twigs and tree bark. They are like nature's little lawnmowers, keeping the grass down in fields. They eat so much because they need lots of energy to hop around and stay safe from hungry animals like foxes and hawks.

Bunny Babies Galore!

Did you know Eastern Cottontails are amazing at having babies? A mommy rabbit can have lots of babies, called kits, multiple times a year! This is why there are so many of them all over the place. They are super important because many other animals, like owls and coyotes, need to eat them to survive. So, even though they are small, they help keep the whole animal neighborhood healthy!

Where Do They Live?

These bunnies are super adaptable! They don't just live in wild forests; they are happy living near people too, in backyards and farms. They are really good at finding safe spots to hide and plenty of food. Because they are so good at living everywhere and having lots of babies, they are not in danger of disappearing. They are one of the most common rabbits you can find in North America!
