Key Facts
Where is Denbighshire?
Imagine a special place in the northeast of Wales, a country that’s part of the United Kingdom! Denbighshire has the big, blue Irish Sea for its neighbor to the north. To the east, it says hello to Flintshire, and to the south, it meets Powys.
On the west, it’s friends with Gwynedd and Conwy. The biggest town here is called Rhyl, which is right by the sea, and the town where important decisions are made is Ruthin. It’s a place full of green fields and pretty views!
Giants and Tiny Homes!
Denbighshire is quite big, about 326 square miles. That’s like having over 500 football fields all put together! But not many people live there, only about 95,800.
That’s like a medium-sized town. Most people live near the coast, where Rhyl and Prestatyn are like two big friends holding hands. The southern part of Denbighshire is much quieter, with only a couple of small towns.
It’s a place where nature has lots of room to play!
Green Hills and Old, Old Stories!
The land in Denbighshire is like a big, green blanket with gentle hills. A super important river called the River Clwyd flows through a wide valley. The lower part of the valley is perfect for growing yummy crops, while sheep and cows munch on grass on the higher hills.
This area is so beautiful it’s called an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty! And guess what? People lived here a super, super long time ago, even before dinosaurs!
They found old bones from people who lived here 225,000 years ago!
Castles and Singing!
Denbighshire is like a real-life fairy tale with amazing castles! There are castles like Castell Dinas Brân, Denbigh Castle, and Rhuddlan Castle, which look like they are straight out of a storybook. There’s also a very old and special church called St Asaph Cathedral.
Every summer, people come from all over to a town called Llangollen for a big music festival where everyone sings and plays music. It’s a place with lots of history and fun traditions!
