Whoa! What's a Defenestration?

Defenestration is a fancy word for throwing someone out of a window! It sounds crazy, but it happened in a city called Prague a few times. The first time was way back in 1419. Then again in 1483. The most famous one happened in 1618. These weren't just little tumbles; they were big events that made people very angry and started wars!

Prague's Window Woes!

The city of Prague has a beautiful castle called Hradčany Castle. It's so big, it's like a whole town on a hill! In 1618, some unhappy people were so mad at their leaders, they grabbed two governors and their helper and chucked them right out of a castle window! Luckily, they didn't fall too far, but it was still a huge shock and made everyone super upset.

Why Did They Do It?

People in Prague were arguing a lot about their beliefs, especially about religion. Sometimes, when people get really angry and can't agree, they do extreme things. Throwing people out of windows was a way to show they were serious and wanted big changes. It was like a very, very angry protest that got out of control.

Window Fights Spark Big Wars!

The scariest part is that these window-tossing events actually started big, long wars! The first one helped start a war in Bohemia, and the big one in 1618 helped start a war that spread all over Europe. It shows how even one angry act can have huge consequences for many, many people.
