Deck (ship)

A deck is like a big, flat floor inside a ship or boat. It's a strong covering that goes over the parts of the ship that hold everything in, called the hull. Think of it like the roof of your house, but it's also a floor for people to walk on!

Ships can have many decks, stacked one on top of the other, just like floors in a tall building. These decks help make the ship strong and give people places to work and live.

Long, long ago, boats were much simpler. They might have had just one main level. As boats got bigger and people wanted to travel farther, they needed stronger ways to build them.

Adding decks made ships much sturdier and allowed more space for sailors and their supplies. Over time, ships grew taller with more decks, like adding extra stories to a building, to carry more things and more people on exciting journeys across the sea.
