Key Facts
Meet the Super Village Builders!
Long, long ago, even before the pyramids were built, people lived in a place called the Cucuteni–Trypillia culture. They lived in parts of Europe that are now Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova. These people were amazing builders and artists.
They made beautiful pottery that was decorated with cool patterns. Their homes were built close together, like a big neighborhood, and they were very skilled farmers.
Homes Bigger Than a School Bus!
Some of the villages these people built were HUGE! They were some of the biggest settlements in the whole world back then. Imagine houses as big as a school bus, all packed together. Some of these giant villages might have had as many people as a big modern city, maybe even 20,000 people! That's a lot of neighbors living all at once.
The Mystery of the Burning Villages!
Here's a super weird thing: these villages didn't last forever. After about 60 to 80 years, the people would burn them down! Nobody knows exactly why, but maybe it was part of a special ceremony. Sometimes, they would rebuild right on top of the old village, making layers of homes. One place had 13 layers of houses built on top of each other!
Inventors of the Wheel?
Guess what? These ancient people might have invented the wheel! They made tiny toy carts with wheels, and these were found in places where they lived. This was even before people in other famous ancient places like Mesopotamia were using wheels. They also knew how to make strong ovens to bake their amazing pottery, which was very advanced for their time.
