Conquest of New France

Key Facts
Where Was New France?
New France was a huge piece of land in North America, like a giant playground! It was where Canada is today. It had big forests, cold winters, and lots of rivers. The French explorers and settlers built towns and forts there a long, long time ago, starting in 1535. It was a very wild and beautiful place, full of nature's wonders.
The Big Change!
For many years, New France belonged to France. But then, a big war called the French and Indian War happened. Britain wanted this land too! So, British soldiers came and fought to take it over. This whole event, from when the fighting started in 1758 until the land officially became British in 1763, is called the Conquest of New France. It was a very important time that changed everything!
Who Lived There?
Lots of people lived in New France! There were French settlers who came to live and work, building homes and farms. There were also many First Nations people who had lived on this land for thousands of years before anyone else. The conquest meant big changes for both the French people and the First Nations, as their lives were affected by the new British rulers.
What Happened Next?
After the conquest, Britain was in charge. They made new rules for the land. The French people stayed, but now they were under British control. This change was official when a big agreement called the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1763. It was like the end of a chapter and the beginning of a brand new story for New France, which became part of Canada.
