Who Was This Explorer Guy?

Imagine a super curious person named Christopher Columbus! He lived a long, long time ago in a place called Genoa, which is in Italy. He loved ships and the sea. Columbus dreamed of finding a new way to sail to faraway lands filled with spices and treasures. He was so determined that he convinced some people to give him ships to go on a very big adventure across the huge Atlantic Ocean!

Sailing to the Unknown!

Columbus set sail with three ships: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. These ships were like floating homes for the sailors. For about three months, they sailed and sailed, with nothing but water all around.

It was like being in the middle of a giant swimming pool for a really, really long time! Finally, they spotted land. Columbus landed on an island called Guanahaní, which is now part of the Bahamas.

A Day to Remember!

When Columbus arrived in the Americas, it was a super important moment. It was like opening a brand new book! This event is celebrated as Columbus Day. It’s a special day to think about his journey and how it changed the world. Many countries celebrate this day, but sometimes they call it by different names, like the 'Day of the Race' or 'Day of the Americas'.

What Did He Bring Back?

Columbus thought he had reached the East Indies, but he had actually found a 'New World' for Europeans. His voyages led to many other explorers coming to the Americas. This started a big exchange of things between the Old World (Europe, Asia, Africa) and the New World (the Americas). They shared plants, animals, and even ideas! It was like a giant swap meet for the whole planet.
