Where the Lakes Used to Be!

Cochabamba is a city in Bolivia, a country far away in South America. It's in a big valley, like a giant bowl, with mountains all around it. Long ago, this place was full of lakes, so many that its name means 'open plain of lakes'!

Today, you can still see a couple of lakes, like Alalay Lake, but most of them are gone because people built houses and roads there. It's like a giant playground in the Andes mountains!

The City of Eternal Spring!

Guess what? Cochabamba is called the 'City of Eternal Spring'! That's because the weather there is super nice all year. It's not too hot and not too cold, just like a perfect spring day. This makes it a great place for flowers to grow and for people to enjoy being outside. It’s also known as 'La Llajta', which is a word for 'town' in an old language called Quechua.

People and Their Homes

Lots of people live in Cochabamba! It's the fourth biggest city in Bolivia, with over 660,000 people. That's more people than you'd find in many big cities! The people who live there are called 'cochalas' or 'cochabambinos'. They speak Spanish, and also sometimes Quechua and Aymara, which are ancient languages from the Andes mountains. They live in houses and buildings in the valley.

What Do People Do There?

People in Cochabamba work in many different jobs. Some people grow food, like fruits and vegetables, because the weather is so good for farming. Others work in shops, schools, or help run the city. It's a busy place where people learn, trade, and build things. It's an important city for the whole country of Bolivia!
