Climax Mine, CO

Key Facts
Where the Clouds Say Hello!
Climax, Colorado, is a special place way, way up high in the mountains. It sits on a spot called Fremont Pass, which is like a giant bridge between two big mountain ranges. This pass is also part of the Continental Divide, which is a super important line that decides if water flows to the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic Ocean!
It's so high up, it's like being on top of a very tall building, but it's all natural!
The Great Treasure Hunt!
A long time ago, Climax was a busy town because people found valuable minerals, like molybdenum, hidden in the ground. Molybdenum is a strong metal used to make things like steel even tougher. So, people came from all over to dig it up! They built a whole town there just for the miners and their families. It was like a giant treasure hunt happening every day!
A Town That Disappeared?
Even though Climax was once a bustling place with lots of people, it's not a town anymore. It's now called an 'extinct' town, which means it's not active like it used to be. The buildings are gone, and the people have moved away. But the memories of the miners and the treasure they found still live on in this high mountain spot.
Living on Top of the World!
Life in Climax must have been an adventure! Imagine waking up every day with a view of snowy mountains. Because it's so high, the air is thin and it gets very cold in the winter, with lots of snow. The people who lived there worked hard digging for minerals, and their town was a special stop for trains carrying the precious metals away.
