Key Facts
What's This All About?
Imagine two schools, like your school and another one across town, but way, way bigger and older! That's kind of like the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. They play a special football game every year, and it's called 'Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.' It's not really hate, but it means they try super hard to win against each other because they've been rivals for so long, since way back in 1893!
That's older than your grandparents' grandparents!
Where Did This Big Game Come From?
This amazing rivalry started over 100 years ago, back when people wore funny hats and rode in horse-drawn carriages. The University of Georgia is in a town called Athens, and Georgia Tech is in the big city of Atlanta. They are about as far apart as your house and the next town over.
Even though they play different sports, football is the biggest game they have each year, usually around Thanksgiving. It's a tradition that's been passed down through many, many years.
Why Do They Care So Much?
It's not just about winning the football game! These two schools also compete for other things, like getting the smartest students and the best teachers. They also want to be known as the best in their state and even the whole country for learning and sports.
Winning the big game makes everyone at their school feel super proud and excited. It's like winning the biggest game at recess, but for grown-ups and with way more cheering!
Who's Won More?
Both teams are really good at football and have won lots of games. They've even won special 'national championships' for being the best in the whole country! The University of Georgia has won four, and Georgia Tech has also won four. That means they've both been champions, making this rivalry even more exciting because nobody knows for sure who will win next. It's always a big surprise!
