Chugoku Region In Japan

Key Facts
Where is Chūgoku?
Imagine Japan as a long, skinny dragon! The Chūgoku region is like the dragon's tail, way out on the western side of its biggest island, Honshu. It's made up of five special areas called prefectures: Hiroshima, Okayama, Shimane, Tottori, and Yamaguchi. These places have beautiful mountains and a long coastline where the land meets the big, blue sea. It's a place full of natural beauty!
What's it Like There?
Chūgoku is a land of two sides! One side, called San'in, is often rainy and has lots of green mountains that look like sleeping giants. The other side, San'yō, is sunnier and drier, with pretty beaches and islands. The weather can change a lot, from hot summers to cooler winters. It's a place where you can see tall mountains and wide-open seas, all in one region!
People and Fun!
Lots of people call Chūgoku home, almost as many as live in a very big city! They speak Japanese and have lived here for a very, very long time. People in Chūgoku love their traditions, like festivals with colorful parades and delicious food. They also enjoy the outdoors, visiting the mountains for hikes or the coast for fun by the water. It's a place where history and modern life mix together.
What Do People Do?
People in Chūgoku work hard at many different jobs! Some people grow yummy fruits and vegetables, like peaches and grapes, because the land is good for farming. Others work in factories, making things like cars and electronics.
The region is also famous for its beautiful pottery and crafts. And because it's by the sea, fishing is a big job too! They trade these things with other parts of Japan and the world.
