Meet Prince Charles!

Once upon a time, there was a super important king named Charlemagne. He had a son named Charles, who was also called 'the Younger' because he had an older brother. Charles was a prince, and his dad, the king, thought he was pretty great! He gave Charles special jobs and even lands to look after. It was like getting extra chores and a bigger allowance from your parents, but way more serious!

A Royal Family Tree

Charles was the second son of King Charlemagne and Queen Hildegard. He was even favored over his older half-brother, Pepin. This means his dad really liked him and thought he'd be a good leader. When Charlemagne was crowned Emperor (which is like a super-king!), Charles was there and was also made a king! He was supposed to get most of his dad's kingdom, but something sad happened.

Almost the Emperor!

Charles was chosen to be the main person to take over his father's huge kingdom. He was like the star player on a team, ready to lead. But sadly, Charles passed away before his father did. This meant his younger brother, Louis, got to become the next emperor instead. It’s a bit like training for a big race your whole life, but then not being able to run it because you got sick.

Why We Remember Charles

Even though Charles didn't become the main emperor, he was still a very important prince. He helped his father rule and was given big responsibilities. He was anointed as a king, which was a very special ceremony. His story shows us that even if things don't turn out exactly as planned, the roles people play and the things they do still matter a lot.
