What's a Celtic Rule?

Imagine a time long, long ago, before video games and cars! People called the Celts had their own special ways of making rules. These weren't written in big, boring books like today.

Instead, they were like important stories and traditions passed down. These rules helped everyone know how to act and what to do if someone did something wrong. They were super important for keeping peace in their villages and lands.

When Did These Rules Exist?

These ancient rules were around for a very, very long time! In Ireland, they were called Brehon Laws and were used for hundreds of years, even before knights and castles became famous. In Wales, a king named Hywel Dda helped write down some rules around 1,000 years ago. So, these laws helped people live their lives for a really long time, from when the Romans were around until much later!

Making Things Fair!

One super cool thing about Celtic rules was how they fixed problems. If someone broke a rule, like accidentally breaking a neighbor's fence, they didn't always go to jail. Instead, they had to pay the person they hurt! It was like saying, 'Oops, I'm sorry I messed up your toy, here's a new one for you.' This way, the person who was wronged got something back, and everyone tried to move on.

Why These Rules Were Special

These old rules are special because they show us how people thought about fairness a long time ago. They believed that fixing the harm done was more important than just punishing someone. It was all about making sure everyone was treated fairly and that communities stayed strong. Even though we have different rules today, thinking about fairness is still super important!
