Carlos I of Portugal

Carlos I was the King of Portugal, a country in Europe that looks like a little boot kicking the Atlantic Ocean! Portugal has sunny beaches and tall mountains. It's a place with a long, long history, full of brave explorers and beautiful castles.

The people there speak Portuguese, which sounds a bit like Spanish and Italian mixed together. It's a country that has seen many kings and queens rule over the years, making it a very special place.

King Carlos I wasn't just any king; he was also a super curious scientist who loved the ocean! He was known as 'the Oceanographer' because he was fascinated by all the amazing creatures and plants that live under the sea. He even went on special boat trips to study them.

Sadly, King Carlos I had a very difficult time towards the end of his life. He was the first Portuguese king in a very long time to die a violent death. He was assassinated, which means he was killed by someone on purpose. This happened a long, long time ago, in 1908. It was a very sad event for Portugal and showed that even kings can face danger. It was a shock to everyone in the country.

As king, Carlos I was in charge of Portugal. He had to make important decisions about his country and its people. He tried to be a good leader, making friends with other countries and learning about the world.

He was especially interested in science and exploring the ocean. He wanted to make Portugal a strong and happy place. Even though his life ended sadly, his interest in the ocean and his efforts to be a good diplomat are remembered.
