Key Facts
Where is This Magical Place?
Imagine a giant, beautiful garden right in the middle of Cambridge, England! It's like a huge park, but instead of just grass, it's packed with plants from everywhere. It's not too far from the university where clever people study plants. The garden is big, about the size of 20 football fields put together! It's mostly flat, making it easy to explore all its wonders.
A Garden Grown by Scientists!
This amazing garden wasn't always here. A long, long time ago, in 1831, a kind professor named John Stevens Henslow decided it would be a great place to learn about plants. He was even the teacher of the famous Charles Darwin! The garden opened so everyone could visit and see the plants in 1846. It's a place where science and nature have a big adventure together.
Hot, Hot, HOT!
Guess what? This garden has seen some super hot days! In 2019, the temperature here got so high, it was the second hottest day ever recorded in the whole United Kingdom! It reached a toasty 38.7 degrees Celsius. Then, in 2022, it got even hotter, reaching a record-breaking 39.9 degrees Celsius! That's hotter than a really hot summer day at the beach!
A World of Plants to Discover!
This garden is like a treasure chest for plants! It has over 8,000 different kinds of plants, all from different countries and climates. You can find plants that grow in snowy mountains, in hot deserts, and even in steamy rainforests. It’s a place where scientists can study these plants to learn new things and teach others about the amazing world of botany.
