Key Facts
What Was This Big Fight About?
The Boston campaign was like the very first chapter of a super important story called the American Revolution. It all started near Boston, a city in America, a long, long time ago. Some people who lived there wanted to be free from the King of England.
The King sent soldiers to stop them, but the brave people of Boston said, 'No way!' They decided to fight for their freedom. This fight was called the Boston campaign.
Sneaky Soldiers and Brave Minutemen!
One day, the King's soldiers tried to sneak out of Boston to grab some important supplies and leaders. But people called 'Minutemen' were ready! They were called Minutemen because they could get ready to fight in just a minute!
They met the soldiers and had a big chase, like a game of tag, but with real danger. The soldiers had to run all the way back to Boston, and lots of people joined the chase to stop them!
Surrounding the City!
After that first big chase, even more brave people came to Boston. They surrounded the city, like building a fence around it, so the King's soldiers couldn't get out or get help. This was called the Siege of Boston.
There was a really big battle called the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was super tough, and even though the King's soldiers won that one, it cost them a lot of people. It showed them that the people fighting for freedom were very strong!
A New Leader and a Big Surprise!
Then, a very famous leader named George Washington came to take charge. He helped turn the brave Minutemen into a real army. They got smart and put cannons on a hill called Dorchester Heights.
These cannons were so big and powerful, they could reach right into Boston and even hit the King's ships in the water! The King's soldiers realized they couldn't stay anymore, so they packed up and left Boston for good on March 17. That's why Boston still celebrates that day!
