What's a Bodyboard?

Imagine a super-fast, flat surfboard that's just for your body! That's a bodyboard. It's usually a rectangle made of special foam that floats really well. You lie on it and let the ocean waves push you towards the beach. It's like surfing, but you stay on your belly! Sometimes, people wear flippers on their feet to help them paddle faster and steer, like a superhero's super-shoes for the water.

Where Did This Awesome Sport Come From?

A clever inventor named Tom Morey thought of bodyboarding way back in 1971. He wanted a fun way to ride waves without needing a big, tricky surfboard. He made the first bodyboard, and people loved it! It was so popular that it got another name: Boogieboarding, after the 'Boogie Board' he invented. It’s like how a toy can get a nickname!

Why is Bodyboarding So Cool?

Bodyboarding is awesome because it's easier to learn than surfing! You can catch waves closer to the shore, which is safer. Plus, you get to feel the amazing power of the ocean up close. It’s a fantastic way to get exercise and have a blast at the beach. You might even see dolphins or cool fish while you're riding the waves!

How Do You Ride a Wave?

Riding a wave on a bodyboard is like catching a fast slide. You paddle out into the water, maybe with flippers helping you. When you see a wave coming, you turn your board towards the beach and paddle hard! The wave lifts your board and carries you super fast towards the shore. You can feel the water rushing past as you glide on the wave's face and even in its curl!
