Island Soldiers!

The Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps, or BVRC for short, was like a special club for brave people who lived on the amazing islands of Bermuda. These islands are in the middle of the big, blue ocean. The BVRC started way back in 1894, which is longer ago than your grandparents' grandparents! They were like helpers for the regular army soldiers who were stationed there.

Getting Ready to Help

These soldiers weren't always fighting. They practiced a lot to be ready if they were ever needed. Think of it like practicing for a big sports game! They learned how to use their rifles and work together as a team. They were called 'volunteers' because they chose to join and help protect their home, Bermuda.

A New Name!

After many years, in 1951, the BVRC got a new name: the Bermuda Rifles! It sounds a bit like they were getting a promotion. They kept helping and practicing, making sure Bermuda was safe. It’s like when you move up to a new grade in school and learn even more cool things!

Joining Forces

In 1965, the Bermuda Rifles joined up with another group to become something new called the Bermuda Regiment. This meant they all worked together even more closely. So, the BVRC started as one group, changed its name, and then became part of an even bigger team to keep Bermuda safe for everyone.
