Key Facts
Why Were They Fighting Near Pyramids?
A long, long time ago, in 1798, a famous leader named Napoleon Bonaparte wanted to take over Egypt. He brought his French army with him on ships. But Egypt had its own brave soldiers called the Mamluks, led by a man named Murad Bey.
They didn't want Napoleon's army to come into their land, so they decided to have a big fight near the amazing pyramids! It was like a giant game of tag, but with real soldiers.
The Big Square Surprise!
When Napoleon's soldiers arrived, they saw the Mamluk horsemen charging at them! The Mamluks were super fast on their horses. But the French soldiers had a clever plan.
They stood in huge, tight squares, like giant building blocks. The Mamluk horses couldn't break through these squares. It was like trying to push over a wall made of LEGOs!
After the horses gave up, the French soldiers marched into a nearby village and won the battle.
Who Was Who in the Fight?
The main boss for the French army was Napoleon Bonaparte. He was a very famous general! On the other side was Murad Bey, who led the Mamluk soldiers. The Mamluks were known for being excellent horse riders and fighters. They wore cool armor and rode fast horses. Even though the French won this battle, the Mamluks were very brave and fought hard. It was a clash of two different kinds of armies!
What Happened After the Big Fight?
Winning the Battle of the Pyramids was a big deal for Napoleon. It meant he could march right into Cairo, the capital city of Egypt! He started making new rules there. But the Mamluk soldiers didn't give up completely. Some of them went to fight another day. This battle showed that the Mamluks weren't as strong as they used to be. It was like the end of an era for their rule in Egypt.
