Why Were They Fighting?

Long, long ago, in a land called Serbia, there were powerful leaders like Prince Lazar. But a big army from far away, called the Ottoman Empire, wanted to take over. Prince Lazar gathered his brave soldiers, and even got help from other kingdoms, to protect their homes.

It was like a big team-up to defend their land from the invaders. This battle was one of the biggest fights of that time, with lots of people involved!

The Big Showdown!

On a sunny day, June 15, 1389, the two armies met on a big field called Kosovo. Prince Lazar's soldiers were ready, and so were the Ottoman soldiers led by their leader, Sultan Murad. It was a fierce fight! Sadly, many brave soldiers on both sides lost their lives. Even Prince Lazar and Sultan Murad were killed in the battle. It was a very sad and difficult day for everyone.

What Happened After?

After the big battle, Serbia didn't have many soldiers left to fight. The Ottoman Empire, even though they lost their leader, had more soldiers coming. This meant that many parts of Serbia eventually became part of the Ottoman Empire. It was a big change for the people living there. The battle became a very important story that people remembered for a long, long time.

Remembering the Brave

Even though the battle was a long time ago, people still remember it. In Serbia, there's a special day called Vidovdan, which is like a holiday to remember the brave people who fought. Stories about the battle were told and written down, and they became very important to Serbian people and their history. It’s a reminder of courage and what happened in their past.
