Barney Oldfield

Imagine a superhero, but instead of flying, he drove super-fast cars! That was Barney Oldfield. Born way back in 1878, he became famous for being one of the very first race car drivers. People loved watching him zoom around tracks. He was so fast that his name became like a secret code for speed in the early 1900s. He even won the first big car race championship!

Before Barney got into cars, he was a champion bicycle racer. He loved going fast! When cars started appearing, he saw his chance to go even faster. He started racing cars in 1902, and he never looked back. He kept racing until 1918, which is a long time! He was the first person to ever drive a car at 60 miles per hour on a round track. That's faster than a cheetah runs!

Barney Oldfield did something incredible. He was the very first person to drive a car at 60 miles per hour (that's 96 kilometers per hour!) on a circular track. Think about how fast that is!
