Barisal is a very old city. People started making it a town a super long time ago, even before your grandparents were born! It became an official town in 1876, which is over 140 years ago. It's grown so much that now it's a big city with lots of people living and working there.
Lots of People and Lots of Houses!
More than half a million people call Barisal home! That's like filling up a giant stadium with people, over and over again. The city is about as big as 10 soccer fields put together. Everyone lives and works in this busy, bustling place by the river.
What Do People Do There?
In Barisal, many people work with the river. They might be fishermen, or they might help load and unload boats that carry important things. It's a busy place for trading and making sure goods get to where they need to go. It's one of the most important places for money in Bangladesh!
