Where Do These Geese Live?

Bar-headed Geese love to hang out in the super high mountains of Asia, like the Himalayas. Think of mountains so tall they tickle the clouds! They also visit lakes and rivers in places like India and Tibet.

These places can be very cold and have thin air, but these geese are built for it! They like to build their nests on the ground, often near water, where they can keep an eye out for anything that might try to sneak up on them.

Flying Superstars!

These geese are famous for their incredible flying skills. They can fly higher than Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world! That's like flying higher than 300 Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other. They do this amazing feat when they migrate, flying from their summer homes to warmer places for the winter. It's a long and tough journey, but they are super strong flyers.

What's for Dinner?

Bar-headed Geese are mostly vegetarians. They love to munch on grasses and other plants they find in their mountain homes and by the water. Sometimes they might eat small bugs or seeds too. They spend a lot of their day looking for food, especially when they are raising their young goslings. Their diet helps them get the energy they need for their long flights.

A Goose Family

Bar-headed Geese are social birds. They often travel and live in groups called flocks. During the spring, they find a mate and build a nest to lay their eggs.

Both the mom and dad goose help take care of the eggs and the baby goslings. The goslings are born covered in fluffy down and can walk and swim soon after hatching. They grow up fast and learn all about being a Bar-headed Goose from their parents.
