Meet Baldur, The Shining Star!

Imagine a god who was so bright and happy, everyone loved him! That was Baldur. He lived in Asgard, a magical place for gods.

Baldur was the son of Odin, the king of the gods, and Frigg, the queen. He was known for being the most handsome and kindest of all the gods. He had a beautiful home called Breidablik, where nothing bad could ever happen.

Everyone wanted to be his friend because he was so good and fair.

A Dream That Changed Everything

One day, Baldur had a strange dream. He dreamed that something very bad was going to happen to him. His mom, Frigg, got very worried. She decided to protect her favorite son! She traveled all over the world, asking everything – plants, animals, rocks, and even diseases – to promise not to hurt Baldur. It was like asking every toy to promise not to break! She thought he was safe from everything.

The Tricky Mistletoe

But there was one tiny thing Frigg forgot to ask: a little plant called mistletoe. It seemed so small and harmless, she didn't think it was a threat. The trickiest god, Loki, found out about this.

He made a special arrow from mistletoe. Then, at a game where all the gods were throwing things at Baldur (and they bounced off because he was so protected!), Loki tricked Baldur's blind brother, Hodr, into throwing the mistletoe arrow. It hit Baldur, and sadly, he died.

Why Baldur's Story Makes Us Think

Baldur's story is a bit sad, but it teaches us important things. It shows how even when you try your best to protect someone, sometimes unexpected things can happen. It also shows how important kindness and love are. Even though Baldur was a god, his story reminds us that life can be unfair sometimes. His death was a big deal for the gods, and it led to other big events in their stories.
