Meet the Mighty Titan!

Long, long ago, in ancient Greece, there was a super-strong giant named Atlas. He was one of the Titans, who were like the first gods. After a big fight, Atlas was given a very important, but very heavy, job. He had to hold up the sky! Imagine carrying a huge, heavy blanket over your head all the time. That was Atlas's job, and he had to do it forever.

Where Did Atlas Live?

Atlas lived far, far away, at the very edge of the world. Some stories say he stood where the sun sets. Later, people thought he lived in a place called Mauretania, which is now part of countries like Morocco. This place had tall mountains, and people even named them the Atlas Mountains after him! They are still there today.

Atlas's Amazing Brain!

Even though Atlas had a tough job, he was also super smart! He was really good at math and looking at the stars. He was so clever that some people said he invented the first model of the stars, called a celestial sphere. It was like an early planetarium! He was also known for his wisdom.

Why We Remember Atlas

Atlas is famous for his strength and his sky-holding duty. He also helped heroes like Heracles and Perseus in their adventures. Because he was so wise and interested in the stars and the world, a special book of maps was named after him โ€“ an 'atlas'! So, when you look at a map book, you're remembering the giant Atlas.
