Where the Ice Meets the Sky!

Argentine Antarctica is a super special part of the giant icy continent of Antarctica. It's like a giant triangle pointing towards the South Pole! It has a long, skinny arm called the Antarctic Peninsula that reaches out like a finger.

It's a place where the land is covered in thick ice, sometimes as thick as two big school buses stacked on top of each other! The weather is very cold, with snow and wind all year round. It's a wild and frozen wonderland!

Argentina's Icy Adventure!

Long ago, brave explorers from Argentina wanted to see what was at the very bottom of the world. In 1902, José María Sobral was the first Argentine to step onto the icy land. Then, in 1904, they built a special base called Orcadas Base, which is still there today!

Over the years, Argentina built more places to live and work in Antarctica. They even sent a special mission to reach the South Pole in 1965!

Who Lives in the Cold?

Even though it's super cold, some people live in Argentine Antarctica! They live at special bases, like scientists and their families. In 2010, about 230 people called it home, including kids! They live in places like Esperanza Base and Marambio Base. It's a very small community, but they are all part of Argentina, even though they are so far away. They even get to vote in elections!

Learning in the Land of Ice!

Kids who live in Argentine Antarctica go to school right there! They learn all sorts of things, just like kids everywhere else. They might learn about the amazing animals that live in the cold, like penguins and seals, and the science of ice and snow. Going to school in Antarctica must be a super unique adventure, with the amazing icy landscape right outside their classroom windows!
