Blast Off to the Moon!

Apollo 15 was a super-special trip to the Moon that happened way back in 1971. It was the fourth time humans landed on the Moon! The astronauts, David Scott and James Irwin, stayed on the Moon for a long time, longer than anyone before them. They also had a brand new toy: a moon car! This car helped them explore way more of the Moon's surface than they could on foot.

Meet the Moon Car!

Imagine a car that can drive on the Moon! That's what Apollo 15 had. It was called the Lunar Roving Vehicle, or LRV. It was like a go-kart but much bigger, about the size of a small golf cart. This amazing vehicle let the astronauts drive far away from their spaceship, which was called the Lunar Module. They drove around a place with a big ditch called Hadley Rille.

Science Superstars!

These astronauts weren't just driving around; they were doing lots of science! They collected rocks that were super old, like they were from the very beginning of the Moon. One astronaut, David Scott, did a cool experiment.

He dropped a hammer and a feather at the same time. Because there's no air on the Moon, they both fell at the exact same speed! This proved something a very smart scientist figured out long ago.

A Trip Around the Moon

While David and James were exploring on the Moon, another astronaut named Alfred Worden was busy orbiting above in the Command Module. He was like the driver of the main spaceship. He used special tools to learn all about the Moon from space. He even got to do a spacewalk, which is like floating outside the spaceship in outer space! Then, everyone came safely back to Earth.
