Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is a super old city in Sri Lanka, an island shaped like a teardrop! It's like a giant playground of history, filled with amazing ruins from a long, long time ago. Think of it as a treasure chest that's been open for thousands of years, showing off its amazing secrets.

This city was once the heart of a powerful kingdom, and it's so special that it's now a World Heritage Site, which means the whole world wants to protect its amazing history!

This city is SO old, it's like your great-great-great-great-grandparents' grandparents' grandparents were born there! People have lived in Anuradhapura for almost 3,000 years. That's longer than any school bus has ever existed!

It was the capital city for a very, very long time, about 1,500 years. That's like staying in the same grade at school for 1,500 years! It was the first big capital of a kingdom called Rajarata.

One of the coolest things in Anuradhapura is a tree called Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. It's believed to be the oldest living tree in the world that people planted on purpose! It's a cutting from a tree where Buddha became enlightened, which is super important for Buddhists.
