Meet Ananke, a Tiny Moon!

Imagine a giant planet like Jupiter having lots and lots of little friends called moons! Ananke is one of these moons. It's not round and smooth like our Moon.

Instead, it's shaped more like a potato or a bumpy rock. It's super small, only about 28 kilometers (17 miles) across. That's much smaller than our Earth, which is like a giant beach ball compared to Ananke's tiny pebble size!

Ananke is a type of moon called an irregular moon because of its odd shape and how it orbits.

Ananke's Speedy Race Around Jupiter

Ananke has a very special way of traveling around Jupiter. It doesn't go in a nice, neat circle. Instead, it travels in a long, stretched-out path, kind of like an oval.

And guess what? It goes around Jupiter really, really fast! It takes Ananke only about 1.5 Earth years to make one trip around the giant planet.

That's much quicker than many of Jupiter's other moons. This speedy orbit is one of the things that makes Ananke so interesting to scientists.

What's Ananke Made Of?

Scientists think Ananke is made of rocky stuff, like a big space rock. It's not made of ice or gas. Because it's so small and rocky, it's hard to see exactly what it looks like from far away. It's like trying to see a tiny pebble from across a huge playground! Scientists learn about Ananke by watching how its light changes and how it moves around Jupiter. It's like solving a space mystery!

A Moon That's Far, Far Away!

Ananke lives very, very far away from us on Earth. It's one of Jupiter's outer moons. This means it travels on a path that is much farther from Jupiter than some of its closer friends. Because it's so far away and so small, it's very tricky to spot. You definitely can't see Ananke without a super powerful telescope. It's like a tiny speck of dust in a giant, dark room!
