Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station 01

Key Facts
Welcome to the Bottom of the World!
The Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station is like a special house for scientists at the South Pole, the tippy-top of Antarctica! It's super far south, even farther than any country you know. This place is very high up, like standing on top of a very tall mountain. It's so cold there that the ground is always covered in ice and snow, like a giant frozen playground!
Who Built This Icy Home?
Long ago, brave explorers like Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott wanted to be the first to reach the South Pole. Later, in 1956, clever builders called Seabees helped make the first station. They worked hard to build a place where scientists could live and study the amazing icy land. It's been a home for scientists ever since!
A Sun That Stays and Goes!
Here's a super cool fact: for six whole months, the sun never sets! It just circles around the sky. Then, for the next six months, it's dark all the time. Imagine having a super long day and then a super long night! Scientists study the stars during the long night because the sky is so clear.
Life in the Extreme!
When it's summer at the South Pole, about 150 people live and work there. But when the super long night comes, only about 50 brave souls stay behind. They need lots of warm clothes to stay safe from the freezing cold, which can be colder than your freezer! They get supplies by airplane and special trucks.
