Alois Hitler

Alois Hitler was a man who worked for the government, checking things at the border. Imagine him wearing a uniform and making sure everyone had the right papers! Alois's life had some interesting secrets and changes, like how he got his last name.

When Alois was born, his last name wasn't Hitler. It was Schicklgruber! His dad wasn't known for sure, which was a bit of a puzzle.

Later, Alois decided to take the last name of his stepfather, Johann Georg Hiedler. But when the grown-ups wrote it down, they made a little mistake and spelled it 'Hitler' instead of 'Hiedler'! It's like if your teacher accidentally wrote your name a little bit wrong on a report card.

Alois got married twice. His second wife was named Klara, and she was also Adolf Hitler's mother. Before they got married, Alois and Klara were related in a way that was a bit like being cousins or a niece and uncle. This happened because of the name change and family connections.
