A Baby King!

Alfonso XIII was born a king in 1886, but he was too little to rule! His dad, King Alfonso XII, had already passed away. So, his mom, Queen Maria Christina, was the boss until Alfonso was 16. He was like a prince waiting for his turn to wear the crown and lead the country. It’s like waiting to be old enough to ride your bike without training wheels!

The Soldier King

When Alfonso grew up, he really liked being a soldier. He often dressed in military clothes and acted like a brave leader. People hoped he would make Spain strong and important again, especially after a big war. He was like a superhero captain, and everyone looked to him for big decisions. He even got nominated for a special prize for trying to help people during a big world war!

Big Decisions and Big Problems

Being king wasn't always easy. Alfonso had to make tough choices about what was best for Spain. Sometimes, people disagreed with him, and there were big arguments. He also had to deal with problems in a place called Morocco. It was like trying to solve a giant puzzle with missing pieces, and sometimes the solutions he chose didn't make everyone happy.

Saying Goodbye to the Crown

After many years, people in Spain decided they wanted a different kind of government. In 1931, they voted for a republic instead of a king. Alfonso XIII decided it was best to leave Spain so there wouldn't be more fighting. He left his home and went to live somewhere else. It was a sad goodbye to his kingdom, but he made way for a new chapter in Spain's story.
