Al-Ma'mun was a very important leader, called a caliph, who ruled a long, long time ago. He was like the captain of a big ship, guiding his people. He loved learning and making sure everyone had a chance to discover new things.
He was known as 'the Reliable' because people could count on him to be fair and wise. He ruled for 20 years, from 813 to 833, and his time was a special period called the Islamic Golden Age.
