Meet the Boy King!

Al-Adid was a king, but he became king when he was just a kid! He was supposed to be in charge of a huge empire called the Fatimid Caliphate. But guess what? He wasn't really in charge at all! Powerful men called viziers were the ones making all the big decisions, like puppet masters controlling a puppet. Al-Adid just had to go along with it all.

A Kingdom in Trouble

When Al-Adid was king, his empire was like a playground where everyone was fighting over the best swing. Different strong leaders kept taking over as vizier, one after another. This made the empire weak, like a wobbly tower. Enemies from other places, like the Crusaders and a ruler named Nur al-Din, saw this weakness and tried to take over parts of the land.

The Rise of Saladin

A very important general named Shirkuh came to Egypt with his nephew, Saladin. After Shirkuh became vizier, he sadly died, and Saladin took his place. Saladin was very smart and strong. He started changing things and made sure he was the real boss. He even got rid of the old ways of the empire and brought in his own people.

The End of an Era

Saladin didn't like the old religion of the Fatimid empire. He slowly changed it to a different one called Sunni Islam. Al-Adid was pushed aside and couldn't do kingly things anymore. In the end, the Fatimid empire was gone, and Al-Adid died soon after. It was a big change for Egypt!
